Beta 0.6 BBS release
====================
Welcome to the first BETA release of the BBS system. At the present time
everything is pretty much in place - however the system needs a lot of shaking
down.
I've been approaching this as more of an operating systems project than a
BBS system project - I figure that those who are much more deeply into
BBSs (ie the sociology, user interfaces etc etc) will be able to write
much better BBSs than I ever will. What I'm providing here is the OS and
compiler so that you don't have to worry about the Comm. Toolbox environment
etc.
To report bugs you must do it electronically. I can be reached at:
AppleLink: CAMPBELL.P (read weekly)
UUCP: ..!mtxinu.com!taniwha!paul (comes to my desk)
I will spin a new release when I get enough bug reports and fixes to make
it worth while. If you need enhancements - also let me know (no promises)
I'm especially looking for things that make writing your BBS difficult. As
always constructive critcism is always much more appreciative. I will be gone
for the month of July - don't expect any responses during that time.
I will NOT debug your scripts - you have to do this yourself (use lots of
printfs).
INSTALLING:
1) Make sure that the Communications Toolbox is already installed
(I cannot distribute it myself in this manner, you must obtain it
from Apple - it's available from APDA for System 6.0X, and will be
standard in System 7.0) - you need the Serial and/or Modem tools,
and a Terminal tool of some kind.
2) Drag the 'Taniwha BBS' file onto your disk.
3) Drag the file 'BBS State' into your system folder
4) Double click on 'Taniwha BBS' to run.
Documentation:
The file 'Spool File 99' is a Mac spool file. To print it drag
it into the 'Spool Folder' in your system folder and double click it to
run Print Monitor to print it.
Anyway - enjoy
